[KDrama Review] SBS' Remember - War of the Son

If you're a great fan of thriller dramas with a pinch of romance and if you want to watch how humanity is so f****d up these days, "Remember - War of the Son" is definitely the kind of drama that you need to watch. The story is about Seo Jae Hyuk (Jun Kwang Ryul) being convicted of a murder that he did not commit. His son, Seo Jin Woo (Yoo Seung Ho), watches helplessly as his father is sent to prison and put on a death row. Using his super memory (a condition known as hyperthymesia that allows him to recall every detail of his life), Jin Woo becomes a lawyer so that he can someday prove his father’s innocence.

He reconnects with Lee In Ah (Park Min Young), the only person who was with him during the trial of his father which is now a prosecutor and she is determined to help Jin Woo. But things get complicated when Jae Hyuk develops Alzheimer’s disease and begins to think he actually committed the murder, and then Jin Woo starts to exhibit symptoms of Alzheimer’s as well, he needs to fight the clock and save his father's innocence before his memories fail him.

MALE LEAD

Yoo Seung Ho is defnitely one of my favorite actors so far and he once again didn't disappointed me with this drama. How can a 22 years old act so mature? I'm so amazed with his performance that I'm so into this drama that I even marked our calendar as to when the English subbed episode will be released, because trust me, you won't like to watch this without English subs because it is a heavy drama and you won't understand a thing if you don't fully understand the situation.

Get your tissues out because I'm pretty sure you'll cry with him in a lot of scenes in this drama. You can literally feel the sadness that he can feel everytime he cries and look at the screen with those do-ey eyes. You'll just feel the emotion and pain and it would just lead you to crying as to how fuc**d up and unfair his society is. So in regards with his acting, I think it's already obvious that he impressively did a great job portraying his character. But I can't give him a perfect score since I'm pretty sure there should always be a room for more improvement, I don't know how the hell he would still improve in this case but whatever, lol. He's just so great.

SCORE : 9.8/10

FEMALE LEAD

I've already seen a lot of drama where Park Min Young is the female lead like City Hunter and Healer. But I think this is where I loved her the most, well i love her character in healer but this one is remarkably great. She's not the typical female lead with cutesy and goofy actions but more of a serious and strong women. I think her charms have showed more in this drama.

I admit, I have a lot of hesitations with the pairing at first and I'm also worried that it might not worked since Park Min Young is like 5 years older than Seung Ho, but surprisingly, it worked well! I don't know why but I'm beginning to like the dongsaeng-noona relationship, haha. Well she doesn't looked like a noona anyways, they look like same age friends to be honest. Nevertheless, Park Min Young also gave great justice to her character, from the way she acts to the way she speaks using her eyes, it's really a great and refreshing performance from her.

SCORE : 9.5/10

THE SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

I don't really have a problem in regards with the supporting characters, from Jin Woo's father down to the rough lawyer and thug leader with a heavy Kyungsangdo accent everyone successfully gave justice to their desired character. Special mention to Nam Gyu Man (Nam Goong Min) the king of psychopaths, lol. I call him the king since he's the best antagonist I've ever seen in my life. Hahaha. I can't even forget his character in "The Girl Who Sees Smells" eeeehh. So creepy. hahaha, and as per usual, he gave us a great performance in this drama as well.

SCORE : 9.5/10

THE STORY/PLOT

The story is really great and when I say it's great, I mean it's really well-done. Personally, what I love about "Remember" is that they didn't emphasize the romance that much, I'm not sure if I am anti-lovers or what but I'm just so sick of seeing dramas emphasizing the romance so much that it's becoming too cheesy for me. A few scenes of romance is already great and that's what this drama have done.

They're focusing the whole drama in the real problem but they always create scenes with decent and tender love. I think for the whole 15 episodes, I didn't even see any kissing scenes, and sometimes when they're like in a heavy situation or they're giving each other motivation, instead of kissing out of no where, they will just give each other a hug. A hug where you can literally feel the 'real' and 'tender' love.

This drama would be one of my favorite dramas of 2016 alongside Reply 1988.

SCORE : 9.5/10

THE ENDING

It feels like the ending was specially made for me. Haha. I'm not being a sadist but I really don't like romance. Well the ending still has a little bit of romance but it's not overdone. This is drama that I've been looking for. You don't need bunch of classic romances or comedy to make a perfect drama, but more lesson that taught you how unfair life is. The way they showed how some of the characters have no choice but to be greedy, how they reacted to unfairness things especially to jinwoo, these are what I've been lookin for. I cried almost every episode, but I realized there are many, real jinwoo out there. People who faced injustice. This is a big slap for everyone especially those who works especially in law world, I wish they could watch this masterpiece and realize how the law could ruin someone's life.

There are so many veterans who suffer from ptsd, alzheimers, etc... and korean entertainment strikes an intellectual chord with these very sensitive issues that have often been skirted under the table that have led to homelessness, suicide, depression or worse. traumas in a life are REAL, and the mind is a powerful survival mechanism.

Thank you for those who involved in this beautiful masterpiece, this is definitely my best of the best drama I've ever watched. The ending is perfect, I know it's possible for jinwoo to get healed but I'm relieved they made the ending in such a good way. I thought I would be happy when nam gyu man died, but I don't know why I cried for him for the first time. It hurts, to be abandoned by the one he trust and love the most. But since nam gyu man did many unforgivable things, I guess it is necessary to make him accept his punishment for everything he did. Big applause to nam goong min, Yoo seung ho, park min young and park sung along who portrayed their characters well. I'm
looking forward for their next drama. fighting!!

SCORE : 9.5/10

FINAL VERDICT

SCORE: 9.8/10 - TOTALLY RECOMMENDED DRAMA.

[TOP15] Best K-Pop Female Rappers

I'm still contemplating whether I'll seriously do this top list or not because I swear, it's a total suicide. Haha. It's either I get a lot of hates from delirious fanatics or I'll get an agreed opinion with others. But whatever the reaction to this top list is, let's just do it.

P.S. I'm seriously not going to be biased with this list, some of my favorites are not even included in this list, so please, stop your rants already. If i missed someone, specially the rookies or others that are from unpopular groups, please tell me and I'll look unto it. But there would never be a chance of me changing the arrangement of this top list, that's for sure. There might be some people to be added but changing the top list would never happen.

TOP 15 - Miss A's Jia

Jia as a chinese member of JYP's girl group Miss A literally slays her rap considering her not being that 'fluent' with korean language. What I love about Jia's rap is the way she delivers her rap, She's not the type of rapper who just spits out lyrics but she knows how to spit it out with proper power and swag. I'll leave this rap compilation of hers and please judge it for yourself.

TOP 14 - Secret's Hana/Zinger

Hana is a member of Girl Group SECRET. She's known for her stage name Zinger before but she changed it for some reason, what I love about Hana is she can either rap with cutesy feel or with swag depending on the music.

TOP 13 - 4minute's Jeon JiYoon

JiYoon might be one of the most underrated kpop idol in history, I think it's because of Hyuna's overflowing popularity that people just don't give any recognition in regards with JiYoon's talent. I gotta admit that I first saw her rap at unpretty rapstar and I wasn't that pleased at her talent at all. Just remembering her embarrassing performance on her first appearance on the show can seriously make me cringe like hell. But Jeon JiYoon gave a new meaning to the saying "It's not about being the best. It's about being better than you are Yesterday". Her life as a rapper is like a drama with ups and downs, she was like at the bottom at first but suddenly became better and you just saw her being at the top. I'll leave this best video hers rapping with Wonder Girl's Yubin and please, decide it for yourself.

TOP 12 - Mamamoo's Moonbyul

You know what? I can just add the whole Mamamoo members on this list, lol. They're like the rookie monster of all time, almost all members knows how to rap and I am so pleased by that. But since their main rapper is Moonbyul, I just decided to put moonbyul here. What I like about Moonbyul is her deep voice rapping, seriously, you wouldn't even think that the girl who is rapping is this small girl. With a small physique and cute face, you wouldn't even think of her as a rapper. But just wait til she spits out the lyrics and get ready to be blown away by her amazing rapping skills.

TOP 11 - F(x)'s Amber

Not being so biased but I'm the type of person who's not really amazed by SM Entertainment's rappers. I always feel like they were just forced to rap and Hip Hop is really not their type of genre. Hate me or not but it always feel like they're not even the ones who create their verses. But Amber's a little exception to that, this girl has some god-given talent when it comes to rapping. Being a foreigner, it must be really hard for her to learn korean but she even did a great job being a rapper. I was going to put some F(x)'s Amber's rap compilation but let me just leave here her Shake that Brass MV since she made an awesome job rapping in this music.

TOP 10 - Wonder Girls' Yubin / Sistar's Hyorin

I really had a hard time thinking which one of these 2 girls are better. They have different type of rapping skills so I seriously don't know which one is better so I ended up putting them together.

~ Wonder Girls' Yubin

A member of the legendary group Wonder Girls, I just love the way Yubin raps because she has a nice flow and diction. She's a total bad-ass and her lyrics are seriously off the roof. I love how she makes her lyrics because it's really good. I'll leave one of her best rap performances below and please judge it for yourself.

~ Sistar's Hyorin

Woah woah woah, why raise thy eyebrows? Haha. I know you're currently thinking right now, why the hell did I put Hyorin here when her group's main rapper is not even listed. No offense to Bora but when it comes to rapping, I put my dibs on Hyorin. Her unique voice make her rap even better. She has a nice flow and she knows how to properly write her lyrics. She could be nasty at times but her lyrics are properly written.

TOP 9 - AOA's Jimin

I think there's a lot of people who are not drawn to Jimin's unique voice but I'm an exception to that. I personally think Jimin's unique voice helps her a lot in giving and delivering unique rap. Her lyrics are impressively done as well, she's the kind of rapper who gives and produce catchy raps that would just stuck inside your head without you even noticing it.

TOP 8 - EvoL's Jucy

For people who doesn't know Jucy, let me give you a brief background of her. Well Jucy is from the underground scene under the name Jucy J, she joined the cast of Show me the Money (season 2 and 4) only to be eliminated early on the competition. Jucy has a strong rap skills with a bad ass image. I'm not sure whether her group is officially disbanded or what but I'll just keep her on this list just to be sure.

TOP 7 - Nine Muses' Euaerin

Don't be easily fooled by that sweet and charming smile because this girl can literally spit fire when it comes to rapping. I'm not sure whether she personally writes her lyrics but nevertheless she has the right power and diction when it comes to rapping. I love her flow as well and she gives proper justice to all of her raps.

TOP 6 - 4minute's Hyuna

Well I'm pretty sure we all know Hyuna. She is the kind of rapper who can easily kills any genre, whether it's a bad ass rapping, to cute rapping and even sexy rapping. She's a total goddess. Her voice is not the grumpy type rap we often hear but more on a high toned rapping with an impressive delivery of her lyrics. Her lyrics are properly made too! I don't even have anything else to say regarding this girl, it's just that, she's totally amazing with a huge amount of sex appeal.

TOP 5 - Lip Service's Bipa

There might be a lot of people who doesn't know Bipa but you should go ahead and check her out. This girl is simply amazing. She always slayed her raps. From flow, to diction, to lyrics, everything's just perfect. Her attitude while rapping is also good. I was also thinking if this girl just debuted under a large company, I'm pretty sure she's already something. But well, I'm always rooting for her, and I'm pretty sure she'll be discovered somehow.

TOP 4 - EXID's L.E

No Kpop Rappers Top List should be ended without L.E's name being on it. This girl is just exceptional. She's one of the best female rappers out there who deserves stardom. Her flow and attitude while rapping is so impressive. She also joined Show Me The Money before and I think she did a really great job.

TOP 3 - 2NE1's CL

Wait, I think I can already hear some blackjacks shouting why the hell their queen is listed on top 3. Well I personally think that CL is a little overrated when it comes to rapping. I gotta admit, she's exceptionally talented, her rapping skills is really great but I think there's a few more people who's way more talented than her. She's the Baddest Female anyways and her lyrics are totally impressive.

TOP 2 - Fiestar's Yezi

For more than 3 years of being unknown, Fiestar's Yezi literally deserves her spot as one of the best female kpop rappers. Thanks to Unpretty Rapstar, those unknown years have finally gone to an end. Known as the korean "crazy dog" because of her past performance on Unpretty Rapstar which I think have blown away everyone. She's a total bad ass when it comes to rapping, her attitude, lyrics and flow are impressively done. I'm still looking forward to Yezi's future works and I hope she could be recognized more with her rapping skills.

TOP 1 - Brown Eyed Girl's Miryo

Well here's the real queen fellas. For more than 10 years in the rapping scene, Miryo have shown us a different kind of rapping skill. What I love more about her is her Freestyle rapping, this girl is totally the queen of freestyle raps. She can instantly create lyrics on whatever words or thing it is. I'll provide some videos and please, judge it for yourselves.

How about you? Do you agree with my list? Comment down below what you think.

[KDrama Review] tvN's Oh My Ghostess

Okay, so i sincerely apologize for reviewing this drama a little late because to be honest, i was hesitating at first if I would watch this drama or what because honestly, i really don't like fantasy dramas, the first time i saw the title, i was like, The F**k?? They're making a drama out of ghost? And also, not knowing who the leading man is, also gave me a lot of hesitations to watch this one. But I ended up watching it anyways when I keep on seeing it on top 10 lists of different blogs and websites, so yeah, i gave it a try.

From the makers of the reply series, tvN, they totally made a great job making this drama. It has a really unique storyline, I'm not sure if it's the first type of drama in korea but so far, this is the only drama I've seen with this kind of genre (Please don't mention Master's Sun since in Master's Sun, the ghosts doesn't play as the lead role.) And also, the way they portray the antagonist in this drama is really great, i find it really refreshing and new.

THE STORY/PLOT

Well as you know, I like Oh My Ghostess because it has a unique storyline on it's own but I won't say that it's near perfect. I really hate dramas where I can easily guess what's going to happen next. You know that feeling? like you can already figure out how things will be in the future. I don't like dramas without any plot twists, because I believe that if you're unable to guess what's going to happen next then that means the storyline is well-made. I like how they thought of the idea of emphasizing the ghost's as the lead role but I don't like how I can easily guess things that are bound to happen in the drama like Officer Choi being the antagonist. I love dramas where you're unable to guess who's the real culprit is, it drives more interest to be honest. I'm not saying Oh My Ghostess' storyline isn't good, I'm just saying that it could be better, I think everything's perfect in regards with this drama except for the storyline since they don't give off that much of a plot twists and surprises.

SCORE : 9/10

THE CAST/CHARACTERS

I'm pretty sure that they made the right choice in each character. The cast suits the characters really well, there's also a lot of actors that I haven't heard of before that totally shines on this drama, so that's really good, well I already saw Soon Ae (Kim Seul-gie) on Kill Me Heal Me before, I believe she's the patient of Oh Ri Jin (Hwang Jung-eum), right? So I'm a bit familiar with her face, Bong Sun (Park Bo-Young) on the other hand, I already saw her on Werewolf Boy which I believe is a great performance of hers, she successfully delivered the character well, I love the fact that she was enable to differentiate the 2 characters, she totally copied Soon Ae's character and I love it, it's really great. I'm hoping to see more performances of her in the future. Sun Woo (Jo Jung-suk), well I haven't heard of him before, I'm sorry. I really don't know him, but he's face is familiar, i think I saw him with IU? Not sure since I haven't watched it, but same goes as the girls, Sun Woo did an awesome job portraying the character as well. He's not the pretty boy next door type but I'm sure he has this charms that really gives you an awe feeling everytime you see him smile. The supporting casts really did great job as well, starting from the Chefs in Sun Restaurant down to the police officers, they really did their job properly. But among all supporting characters, there's seriously one person that I am most curious with, it's Joon. I thought it would be a love triangle between the 3 (Sun Woo, Bong Sun and Joon) but it's not. Just look at the chemistry of this 2! I thought there's really something between them, haha.

But anyways, the cast really did great. So kudos for that!

SCORE : 9.5/10

THE SETTING/LOCATION

Well I really don't have anything to say about it since the locations really suits the drama. I also love how Sun Woo and Bong Sun's love started in the rooftop. Hehe, so cute.

SCORE : 9.5/10

FINAL VERDICT

It's not perfect but it's near-perfect. Just a little bit spice on it's storyline and I bet it would be the best drama of the year. I like how they didn't used the forever fool out of kindness character in regards with Bong Sun, because there are some dramas with a character like that, like seriously, you can't be a fool forever trying to think of others. I love how they made Bong Sun improved her character on this drama so 2 thumbs up for that. The unique storyline helps the drama to be good as well, and I give tvN special points for that. tvN is totally in a roll this year, they keep on surprising us with their storylines, I wonder what else do they still have on hand? I can't wait to see it. I'm so looking forward with tvN's new upcoming dramas.

SCORE : 9.5/10
